Notre Dame Cathedral
The Notre Dame Cathedral which is located on the Île de la Cité, a small island in the heart of the city beckons many a visitor to come explore its impressive structure. It comes with a beautifully rich history with every glance at its gorgeous structures. Taking a walk through the beautiful grounds is also a cherished activity by many. You can also get fabulous views of the city when you climb to the north tower.
Located just 20km southwest of Paris lies a magnificent beauty, a glorious testimony of the Sun King ‘s love for splurging, that beauty is the Versailles Palace. Many enjoy marvelous tours of its interior with favorites being the Hall of mirror that is seventeen mirrored arches reflecting the seventeen arcaded windows that overlook the bewitching gardens. There is also the Chapel of Versailles with its amazing architecture that is a wonderful combination of Baroque and Gothic, complete with carved pillars, marble tile floors and columns. The Grand Apartment is another popular part of the palace, it was King Louis XIV’s apartment, with its gorgeous ceiling a wonder to many. Last but not least is the Royal Opera, which is made up of entirely wood and is currently used for operas and concerts. What makes the Royal Opera stand out is the fact that it was first used by Maria Antoinette and King Louis XVI for their wedding and had a unique mechanical system that raises the floor to stage-level.
A look at other fascinating places to visit while in France, though with lesser detail:
- Louvre Museum with its fantastic collection of art inclusive of the Venus of Milo and the Mona Lisa. With over a million works of art and approximately 35,000 on display, it is indeed an art-lover’s paradise!
- Champs-Elysées that stretches approximately two kilometers from the Place the la Concorde to the Place Charles de Gaulle is a wonder on its own. However, it does come alive with plenty of celebrations taking place in the area. It is also home to a number of beautifully arranged gardens inclusive of fountains, plenty of shops, cafes, theaters and cinemas.
- Parc de la Villette which is situated in the far north end of Paris and is such as special delight to visitors, comes with a number of cultural offerings, thematic gardens and a generally beautiful atmosphere. While there, be sure to pay a visit to the City of Science and Industry, a gorgeous portion that is made up of mainly glass and iron, and comes with plenty of exhibits to keep you in awe!
