One such location is that of the city of Alajuela. It is the 2nd largest city after the capital San Jose as well as the capital of Alajuela Province. Located in the Costa Rican central valley, Alajuela is now one of the major metropolitan of the country. It is an important place because of the fact that it is the birth place of local hero Juan Santamaria after whom the main international airport is being named in the city.
Alajuela is rich in history, before the Columbian occupation the land came under the Huetar Kingdom of the West and was inhabited by the local native tribes. At time of Spanish invasion they were lead by chief Garabito. It is a laid back city with a very friendly Tico population so it should be on the top list of places you must visit in your life time.
There are many amazing places if you love to hike. For instance you can go to Rio Celeste. It is a perfect location for hiking with a great view, you will fall in love with nature and there will be very beautiful flora and fauna that will mesmerize you. There is a beautiful water fall which will freshen you up. Then there is Zoo Ave with free entry and loads of natural species. It is a good place for children to learn no matter to where they belong. At Zoo Avenue, you can see almost all species of birds and monkeys found in Costa Rica.
Alajuela has Spanish inspired architecture which, along with a number of museums and parks to visit including Juan Santamaria museum, and Parque Juan Santamaria which is a beautiful park dedicated to the national hero.
